Searching for Signs of Spring
"Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." --Isaiah 43:19 NLT
This time of year the weather in Nashville is variable, we might have 70 degree weather one day and snow with frigid temperatures the next. I usually find myself searching for signs of spring, signs of hope when I’m ready for the warm weather to come and stay awhile, but it’s not time yet. In March I intentionally look for the green sprouts of daffodils coming up. Since I’ve been doing this for many years, I know the specific places to look on trails and walking paths that I frequent. If I don’t intentionally look each week, I might miss the blooms that are sure to come. I found this early bloomer while looking for signs of spring during the recent snow days.

Spring Prayer
Dear God,
Spring is a metaphor for change. Some changes we eagerly await, and some we abhor. Some changes we plan and others arrive uninvited. To all these changes we ask the gift of Your perspective beckoning us to expectation, hope, and rebirth.
May the sunlight and the rain be reminders that You are at work renewing the earth. As a God of renewal, You are ever at work in our lives, too.
Open our eyes and lives to the needed changes in our lives this Spring. Awaken us to new life and perspective, for we pray in Jesus' name.
Amen.
Upcoming Events
My March Quiet day is full, but there are a few more spots open for my April Quiet Day. In May, I am teaming up with Barbi White to offer a Quiet Day with Nature.
Resources
Lent begins March 5, 2025. One resource for this season that I commend to you is The Art of Lent: A Painting a Day from Ash Wednesday to Easter (Sister Wendy Beckett). This delightful book includes a series of forty full color paintings and a short reflection for each day of Lent. If this sounds interesting to you, you may want to consider one of my group offerings: Visio Divina, which means divine seeing. I’ll provide each participant a prepared prayer guide combining both scripture and art. During our meetings you will experience group discussion about the artwork, you’ll have space and silence to pray and journal with the prayer guide, and then there will be group reflection time where you can share your experience in prayer. The same group members meet once each month (September 2025 through May 2026). Registration has not yet begun, but please let me know of your interest in this group by emailing [email protected].
Read what past participants are saying about Visio Divina Group:
“In our lives that tend to move along quickly and often mindlessly, the opportunity to pray with an image through Visio Divina felt restful and intimate. The experiences resonated with how I have encountered Jesus in scripture and also created greater curiosity about His presence in my day to day life. I experienced a deeper sense of gratitude that he embraces my creative imagination as part of my design and communion with Him. I absolutely and without hesitation recommend this group to others. I found that learning to pray in this way gave me yet another way to commune with God where I could come as I am, learn to listen more closely to His still small voice, and experience His love. I left each session with an encouraged heart and an invitation to continue walking with Him. In gentle and generous ways, Andrea invited us to be with Him. The structure of the sessions, selections of artwork and the way she led us in our times of observation, prayer and sharing all worked together so beautifully. I felt truly welcomed and loved by Jesus. I am thankful for this precious opportunity.”
“Visio Divina takes my heart to a deeper level of experiencing God’s unfathomable love. My brain stops doing all the talking and my spirit opens up to intimate communion with Him. He gives so generously and I am renewed in my heart and mind. Every time we met a scripture, a reading, a prayer, and in the time to journal He met me there. He is so gracious. Showing up with a heart desperately seeking Him, He was there ready to speak lovingly into my cares and concerns. I recommend this group. It nurtures one’s tender heart to be still, to listen for the gentle whispers of the Holy Spirit as He instills deeply meaningful awareness of His presence, His love His power in one’s daily circumstances. Andrea is a gentle yet strong loving leader. She is generous with her heart and accepts everyone with gracious hospitality in her spirit and in her home. You can tell Andrea anything no matter how difficult or shocking and she would be gracious and giving in her understanding and encouragement as she walks with you to safety in Jesus. She is fulfilling the Lord’s call in her life as she selflessly and graciously gives of herself in this ministry.”
Like the little girl in this painting, I hope you will make space to search for signs of spring, signs of hope in your life. Where is God at work? Spring is coming. March 20 is the official first day of spring, it will be here before you know it!
